Former president John Rawlings has indicated that President Akufo Addo’s apt description of departed coach Sam Arday is a befitting tribute to represent the three ex president-Rawlings, John Kuffour and John Mahama. He told the bereaved family at his Ridge residence yesterday that there is no better way to describe the 1995 juvenile World Cup winning coach than how Nana Addo captured it. “The president has spoken for us, he (Nana) knows well about people. Arday had a lifestyle which would have made him lived longer; he was such a disciplined man. He was such a special person, very affectionate and likeable.” “We must take a cue from his qualities and learn from him. I think it is better for tributes to be read while one is alive,” said Rawlings when the Ardays called on him yesterday. Nana tweeted after the coach’s death that “…saddened by the news of the death of Sam Arday. Undoubtedly, one of the most brilliant coaches Ghana has produced.” The former Ghana leader advised the bereaved family to formally seek the president’s attention to give the deceased a befitting national burial. Earlier, the family, in the company of Chief Larry Opare-Otoo, called on former president Kuffuor to formally and customarily announce and invite him for the funeral scheduled for April 7 at the forecourt of the State House in Accra. The two ex-statesmen sympathized with the bereaved family and promised to grace the ceremony if they are in town at the said date. Coach Arday, until his death few weeks ago, was in charge of the West African Football Academy (WAFA) and has coached clubs as Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Okwawu United, the Black Stars etc. He left behind two children- a boy and a girl. Burial takes place at the Osu cemetery.

There has been roughly a month of introspection after the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) defeat in the 2016 general elections, and the Member of Parliament for the Wa Central constituency, Rashid Pelpuo, believes Ghanaians may have taken John Mahama for granted.

“Ghanaians will regret, possibly, for throwing away a pearl like John Mahama”, the legislator said in an interview with Citi News’ Richard Dela Sky minutes after the expiration of the sixth Parliament of Ghana’s fourth Republic in the early hours of January 7.

What followed was the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, taking the oath of office as President, after the seventh parliament had been sworn in.

Nana Akufo-Addo rode on the back of 53.85 percent of the valid votes cast to become Ghana’s fifth President of the fourth Republic.

A taxi cab ran into a group of children killing one instantly and injuring 16 others at Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya district of the Ashanti Region.

The incident happened at about 8pm Saturday night when the children had gathered by the streets to watch celebrations following the inauguration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as president.

According to police, the "inexperienced" driver had gone for his brother’s taxi cab, to join the jubilations.

But he lost control of the car and ran into the children.

I write this personal epistle to you Nana Akufo-Addo, president of Ghana. Hope you find it worthy. I listened, read and wrote about your inaugural speech.

I was inspired! I took home with me many phrases of inspiration from your speech. I felt proud. Not only because your oratory and presentation skills are peerless in our current democratic dispensation but because for a long time, I never felt a sense of sincerity and conviction in the utterances of the public officers who made them.

Even when you were choking through the speech, I could have sworn, I sympathized with you, cringing in my seat just as your teary wife did on the dais. And when you recovered from the stormy cough to end that great speech I said to myself this is once again a demonstration of the steely determination that got you up there when many had said you will be down there, never to be president.

I got home tired but refreshed only to hear, that portions of your great speech had been plagiarized. I was embarrassed.

I listened to the words of George Bush played side-by-side with yours on Joy FM and I was let down. I went to facebook and you were all over the place trending, not for your wonderful delivery, confidence and determination but for a plagiarised material.

Every status on facebook for a moment had something on plagiarism. On Whatsapp and telegram it was worse! Every group I belonged to, had people either defending you or tearing you into shreds. And this is your first day at work. You have four more years, at least.

But I went back to listen to the words you plagiarised. Not the one belonging to Bill Clinton but the one made by Woodrow Wilson which was also plagiarized by George Bush.

"I ask you to be citizens: Citizens, not spectators. Citizens, not subjects; responsible citizens building your communities and our nation."
